Crinoline Flowers, by photographer Sophia Banks

This stunning photo series, called Crinoline Flowers, was made as a visual representation of Sophia Banks‘ feelings about being transgender. When she made these photos, then known as Daryl Banks, she was nowhere near ready to come out and tell the public about her being a trans woman, but she courageously did so recently.

Her inspiration for the photos came while wandering around some vintage clothing stores in Toronto’s Kensington Market. The original series was photographed when she was taking a studio lighting class at Ryerson University. The photos were later re-shot for the Eckhart Gallery in higher resolution.

Enjoy!
